Alex McIntyre, MP for Gloucester, Signs the Power of Youth Charter

9 July 2026

Alex McIntyre, MP for Gloucester, becomes the 4th Member of Parliament to Sign the Power of Youth Charter

An incredible day for Gloucester! We’re so happy to welcome MP, Alex McIntyre, to an ever growing movement, the Power of Youth Charter.

The Power of Youth Charter is a national commitment, calling on organisations, businesses, public bodies, and members of the government, to recognise the value of youth voice and take meaningful action to embed it in their work. Alex joins other MPs, Stuart McMillan, Darren Millar and Jack Abbott, who are all backing their Towns & Cities as a Place of Social Action by signing the Power of Youth Charter.

For Alex, signing the Charter is about more than a symbolic gesture. It’s a public commitment to ensuring young people in Gloucester have a genuine say in the decisions that affect their lives, and the opportunity to influence change in their communities.

Speaking about his decision to sign, Alex said:

“I’m really pleased to be signing the Power of Youth Charter to show my commitment to empowering young people in Gloucester.

Our young people have so much talent and passion, and it’s up to all of us to make sure they’re able to shape decisions, influence change and make a positive impact on their communities.

I’m committed to doing everything I can in my role as an MP to give opportunities to young people and to give them a voice. Signing the Power of Youth Charter is just one way I can show that commitment and give my support to the amazing #iWill movement and ambassadors in our city.”

Alex’s commitment reflects a wider recognition that young people bring energy, creativity, and lived experience to the table, insights that can’t be replicated and shouldn’t be overlooked. Across the UK, MPs are increasingly recognising that empowering young people isn’t just good practice, it’s essential to building stronger, more representative communities. We’re proud to see this commitment taking root in Gloucester, and we hope Alex’s signature encourages other elected representatives across the country to follow suit. Any elected representative, regardless of party or constituency, can sign the Power of Youth Charter and show their support for youth-led social action.

The signing itself took place at GASP (Gloucestershire Arts and Social Projects) in Gloucester, who also signed the Charter this week. It felt fitting that an MP and a local arts and social projects organisation would make the same commitment to young people, in the same city, in the same week, a reminder that this movement is being built from Parliament all the way down to the grassroots, with young people at the heart of it throughout.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible people who brought the day together. A special thank you to #iWill Ambassadors Aliyah and Huss; to Soozy Roberts at GASP, signatory to the Power of Youth Charter, for hosting the signing; to Talli, Maria and Rabia from Gloucester Hospitals NHS Young Influencers Programme, another proud Power of Youth Charter signatory; and to our brilliant partners Rachel Key, Community and Youth Voice Lead at The Venture Community Hub, and Mikel Medley, Youth Engagement Manager at The Music Works.
