Dear NHS Trust,
We’ve heard that you’re interested in setting up or developing a youth social action programme. Through our role as Youth Social Action Advisors, we would like to offer you some help, advice and guidance in doing so, from knowledgeable lived-experience young volunteers. If you’re interested please read on.
We are a project group of the NHS Youth Forum, comprised of its’ alumni members and supported by the British Youth Council. We were specially convened in this NHS70 year to support the growth in youth social action in health and social care.
You may well have heard of the NHS Youth Forum before, we’re a group of young people who have a passion for improving health services for young people. We work directly with NHS England, Public Health England and Department of Health enabling the Forum to have a real impact on the health services that young people use. The youth forum has run campaigns on issues as diverse as youth healthcare rights, mental health, young carers, #yourhealthinyourhands, creating “golden rules” for good care and much much more. Check out our pages on the NHS England and British Youth Council websites for further information.
As a project group of the Alumni of the forum, we are all experienced and committed to youth involvement in health and social care. Many of our members have experience in co-creating youth social action schemes (youth forums, peer-support networks and volunteering programmes) with public sector bodies. We can use our experience and young person’s perspective to help you identify and overcome challenges. Helping you to create a meaningful and fruitful relationship with young people in your area.
You’ll already know from Step Up to Serve’s and other guidance that “youth leadership” is essential to building a successful youth social action programme. It’s somewhere both our vast experience of different kinds of youth leadership; and with our contacts both in youth forums up and down the country, the UK Youth Parliament and UK Local Youth Councils Network can really come in handy for you!
If you’re interested in working with us, please get in touch via email firstname.lastname@example.org
Please do bear in mind that we are all volunteers, often with restrictions on our time and availability due to work, school or university. We look forward to hopefully working with you, and creating some amazing youth social action programmes!
We look forward to hearing from you.
