Environment Pledges

We pledge to: Continue to register environmental professionals (Chartered Environmentalists and Registered Environmental Technicians) in order to maintain and improve the environment for young people and future generations. The environment is key to a positive and enjoyable future. Support the environment sector to ensure future opportunities are available to young people with the aim to continuously aid growth in environmental jobs and voluntary positions. Work to develop environmental apprenticeships with partner organisations to further increase opportunities for young people to enter environmental roles.

Our pledge is to work with children and young people to create a Young People’s Forest; a newly created native woodland site, interspersed with open spaces that will offer space, peace and active exploration, by: planting and caring for young trees, creating a new woodland of over a quarter of a million trees helping to interpret the site and forest in a way that is meaningful to them engaging more deeply in designing, delivering and participating in volunteering and engagement activities through connection with their forest, young people will inspire their counterparts elsewhere in the UK

Our new three year project Keeping it Wild will empower and inspire 600 young people aged 11-25, from backgrounds currently under-represented in natural heritage, to gain vital skills while discovering, conserving and sharing their experiences of the capital’s wild spaces. Young Londoners from diverse backgrounds will have the opportunity to take part in five different activity strands, with their programme path tailored – by the young people themselves – to best suit their needs, interests and age group. The Wildlife Trusts believe that young people deserve to live in a healthy, wildlife-rich natural world and should have the opportunity to experience the joy of wildlife in their daily lives. They lead Our Bright Future, an innovative partnership delivering youth social action and pledge to share advice, experience and expertise in building similar programmes.

Develop new, youth-friendly social action opportunities. Promote and celebrate the positive role young people can play through social action. Ensure young people have a voice and are represented in decision-making.
