Project Description

Age 16, England

My first independent social action venture was when I was nine and noticed that my school was not supporting any environmental charities. As someone who has always been passionate about the environment, I formed my own charity, Green Leaf Charity. With the help of my friends during our lunchtimes we sold keyrings, bookmarks and other items to raise money for another environmental charity, which focused on saving pandas. The head teacher allowed us to hold an assembly and present our charity’s mission in front of hundreds of people to encourage donations. This taught me that if you want something done, the most effective method is to take the issue into your own hands. I was not reliant on the school and raised a huge amount of money through my own hard work. The experience made me more confident as a person and showed me that even though I was young, I could make a difference.
