Project Description

Saadia Abubaker

Age 19, Wales

I first got involved in social action when I began college, I set up my own sports sessions for girls from ethnic backgrounds. After Covid shut down schools and cancelled exams, I began to take part in peer research projects on mental health and racism. My experiences and learnings gave me the courage to speak on multiple panels as part of the Young and Black Campaign for UK Youth, including the Teach First panel about racial inequality for #iwill week. Outside of my studies, I produce podcasts, designs and workshops for young people aged 16-24 all as part of my social business “SaadiaSpeaks” which I founded earlier this year in the aims of empowering, uplifting and inspiring young people to believe in themselves and create a goal plan to bring their dreams to reality.
