Project Description

Oliver Mitchell

Age 12, England – South East

When I was 12, I was invited to take part in the Big Ideas competition where I learned about climate change and how it’s destroying our planet.

Our team at school invented ‘Energy gym’, where exercise equipment such as treadmills and rowing machines harness kinetic energy and convert it into electricity.

We won the regional stage of the competition and came fourth at the national final. We’re now investigating making a smaller machine to attach to road bikes to power a mobile phone. I’ve really enjoyed the whole experience – it’s inspired me to keep fighting climate change.
