Project Description

Jayson Pandya

Age 14, England

I first got involved with social action when I joined Leicester’s Youth Council as a Youth Councillor. I helped advocate on issues that mattered to other young people such as homelessness, climate change and food poverty. During my time at the Youth Council, we had several meetings with decision makers within the council to make sure young people’s voices were being heard.

During the 2020 Lockdown, I became an ambassador for the Food Foundation and helped campaign with them to end child food poverty. As a youth ambassador, I have been a key part of the national conversation to find solutions to child food poverty. I have been part of a group that has had many meetings with the Department of Education. At these meetings, I shared my lived experience of food poverty. By reporting directly to the UK government, we helped them better understand the magnitude of the issue and forced them to take action.
