Project Description

Elizabeth Wright

Age 25, England

During the first Lockdown in England, I saw a statistic that 3/10 people who menstruate couldn’t access or afford the sanitary products they needed to manage their periods with safety and dignity. After some more research I found out that 137700 young people in the UK have missed school because of Period Poverty and I felt really strongly that I had to do something about it. As part of my Scout of the World Award I carried out a project to fight Period Poverty. I hand made over 50 reusable sanitary towels and distributed them in my local area with the support of Freedom4Girls who are a Leeds-based Period Poverty charity. I have also delivered educational sessions about Period Poverty at my local youth club and the school where I work.
