I began volunteering at Tean Youth Club aged 17 as a young leader, as I wanted to do something good for the community. At first, I played a supporting role, but after I attended the SCVYS young leader training I became an active committee member and a leader at age 18. In 2016 I moved to university in Derby but continued volunteering most weeks at youth club. In my second year I decided to get involved in social action at university and became the student representative. I have since been elected for the past 5 years and was awarded life membership of the students’ union for my actions at university. I also piloted a peer assisted learning scheme which is up and running.
I continued with youth work and created my own club Gaming Potion in 2018, with the help of SCVYS and a committee of volunteers. This club has helped young people to develop skills in creativity and critical thinking. Recently I became a trustee of the charity SCVYS to help other community groups.
