Volunteer Police Cadets

  • We pledge to support police forces to increase the number of young people who serve their communities as volunteer police cadets by 2020. Our current target is to double our numbers from 10,000 to 20,000 by the year 2018.

The National Volunteer Police Cadet programme now has over 8,500 members, an increase of 3500 in 2 years. We are currently looking at ways to increase membership to 28,000 by the end of 2020.

If this aspirational number were to be achieved, it would see the young people in the VPC volunteer over 1 million hours of social action every year. This aspiration will take significant investment but once established, the 28,000 in the VPC would become self sustaining.

A charity called ‘NVP Cadets’ has recently been set up to support this work. The charity will continue the work of the National Volunteer Police Cadet Programme in supporting Police Forces to develop and deliver the best possible VPC programme.

Quote from Ed Sherry, Programme Director
“Youth Social Action is at the heart of the Volunteer Police Cadets and that is why Cadets across the country give up at least 3 hours of their time every month to help make their community a better place to live and work. With support from their leaders, the cadets have developed outstanding local projects that have made a significant difference to themselves and their communities”
