UK Community Foundations

  • Work with Step Up To Serve & the Cabinet Office to support the development of a Youth Social Action fund to address inequalities in social action in the East of England
  • Act as an ambassador for the #iwill campaign, encouraging members to pledge their support to the campaign and be involved in supporting youth social action
  • Join our #iwill campaign funder steering group to look at developing collaborative approaches to address barriers in growing youths social action provision
  • Share the six quality principles with UKCF members to think about how they can embed them into future grant programmes

In support of the #iwill campaign, UKCF announced in July that it would facilitate grant making into three counties in East England on behalf of the Cabinet Office.  Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk Community Foundations each received £85k from government.  Collectively, they made £180k in grants this Autumn to 46 different charities focused on helping young people and increasing youth social engagement.  The remaining £75k of grants will be awarded to deserving groups this Winter.

Importantly, each foundation has secured an additional £85k from other donors to extend this initiative into 2016/17.

These counties were selected as only 25 per cent of 10-20-years-olds in the East of England are involved in youth action projects, compared to 40 per cent nationally

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
“The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK.
We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life.
Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?”
