Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust pledges to give young people living within our communities the opportunity to take part in volunteering within our hospitals, enabling them to gain skills to succeed in work and in life.We will do this by:
  • Working with local schools and colleges to increase accessibility, particularly for underprivileged young people living within our communities.
  • Engaging with local colleges and universities to ensure that our opportunities provide the skills which can lead young people to future employment or further education.
  • Encouraging young people to experience a variety of volunteer roles, each providing personal challenges to overcome, enabling them to grow in confidence and ambition.
  • Establishing mechanisms for young volunteers to assess their learning outcomes and enabling them to reflect on their experiences.
  • Recognising and celebrating the impact young volunteers have on services and particularly to enhancing the patients experience.
  • Empowering young volunteers to voice their opinions and ideas on how the programme can be shaped to provide more impactful volunteering.

We’ve just pledged to the #iwill campaign – watch this space for updates on our progress.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
“The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK.
We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life.
Over 700 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?”
