The National Development Team for Inclusion will:

  • Promote the findings of our inclusion study highlighting examples of great practice in enabling the full participation of all young people in social action
  • Embed the principles and practices of inclusive, high quality youth social action in our work with Local Authorities around the country to implement the new SEND reforms.
  • Explore the implications of our findings including how to address gaps and priorities for future work with our partners, including Step Up To Serve and Pears Foundation.
This year Helen Bown our Head of Policy and Research at NDTi shared learning from our inclusion study through our NDTi blog (www.ndti.org.uk.blog). We also joined Volunteering Matters at three national conferences on youth volunteering. Here we shared the learning from our Step Up To Serve inclusion study and helped voluntary organisations understand how they can use the new SEND reforms to develop strategic partnerships with local authorities, schools and colleges that promote social action. NDTI delivers the national Preparing for Adulthood programme for DfE. This programme supports local authorities and their partners implement the SEND reforms and support young people to move into adulthood with four key life outcomes, one of which is community inclusion. We have been working with local authorities to ensure that their statutory SEND Local Offer includes support to help all young people engage in social action.

Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
"The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK. We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life. Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?"
