Franklin Scholars Programme

Franklin Scholars Programme

  • Expand the Franklin Scholars programme, enabling young people to support younger children in their schools through high-impact peer tutoring and mentoring, to at least 15 schools by November 2015, and 100 schools by 2020; engage at least 3,000 young people in high quality social action within their schools through the Franklin Scholars programme by 2020.
  • Expand to schools in rural areas to enable young people with fewer opportunities to engage with social action, developing their key character strengths, whilst transforming their school communities; work with our partner schools to embed youth social action in their values and ethos, making it a key part of school life for every pupil, irrespective of their background or need
We have expanded the Franklin Scholars programme to 12 schools, and are on track to reach our target of 15 schools by the end of this year, and 100 schools by 2020. We are currently providing social opportunities to over 200 young people across three regions - London, the North West, and the South West. And we are piloting a broader approach with one of our partner schools, helping them to embed social action across the school, in different contexts and with different year groups.
Quote from Charlotte Hill, CEO at Step Up To Serve
"The #iwill campaign is driven by leaders from across society who are committed to making youth social action a normal part of growing up in the UK. We know that young people want to play an active part in improving their communities, and that in doing so, they develop their own skills for work and life. Over 350 cross-sector organisations so far have pledged to support youth social action, and say #iwill. What will you do?"
