Child to Child

Child to Child’s Hearing All Voices programme will continue to support schools to improve the life chances of disadvantaged children and young people. Using the award-winning Child to Child approach, Hearing All Voices empowers these young people to become active citizens and enhances their life skills and employability. Through Hearing All Voices we share the knowledge and expertise we have developed over 30 years promoting child participation internationally and in the UK.

In 2015, we pledge that:

  • We will continue to support young people to take action to make positive changes in their lives, schools and communities.
  • We will provide systematic training and guidance for teachers and school staff to enable them to support young people to develop the life, learning and language skills they need to take meaningful social action.
  • We will develop a community of practitioners to share best practice and deepen understanding on how to support young people’s quality participation and social action.

This year Child to Child’s Hearing All Voices programme worked in partnership with Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College supporting disadvantaged young people to direct their own social action. Two groups raised awareness about bullying with a Facebook and poster campaign in their college. Another group interviewed rough sleepers and, with a better understanding of their lives and the problems they face, decided to raise money by showing a movie, selling homemade refreshments and running second-hand clothes collection. All proceeds were donated to Glass Door- a local charity catering for rough sleepers in West London.

Teaching staff developed skills in supporting young people to ACT: enhancing their sense of Agency, Communication and Teamwork skills. As a result of participating in the project young participants were noticeably more confident with greater resilience and self-esteem. Looking forward to discovering what issues this year’s young people will choose to address. Exciting!
